Swimmers brave the icebergs at club night

22 Nov, 2006 07:54 AM
As icebergs floated off Dunedin in New Zealand's south, Canowindra Swimming Club held their second meeting of the season on Friday night in a pool cool enough to have the odd ice cube in it.

However, despite the cold a good roll up of hardy souls ensured a competitive night.

Seven heats of the 33 metres freestyle were run with Rohan Toole running out the winner in the final to win the "spoon" with a time of 28 seconds.

Time triallers setting their first times for the Club included Brocke Harvey Wilde, James Russell and a very keen Rossanne Holmes, who is setting a very fast bench mark for all adult swimmers.

Improvers for the night included Madison Vitnell who sounded an ominous warning for the season ahead as she bettered her time in the 66 metres backstroke by three seconds and her 66 metres freestyle time by four seconds.

Competitors wanting to catch Madison may need flippers to do so.

Joshua Flannery continued the improver's list by taking four seconds off his 33 metres freestyle time while Kayla Banks improved her 33 metres breaststroke time by a whopping four seconds.

Erica Blanche showed that butterfly is her stroke as she took seven seconds off her time for 33 metres butterfly.

Exhibiting the reddest of abs for the night was Elijah Beath who belly-flopped beautifully into the water for his 33 metres backstroke heat.

Bailey Cain tried his best but his 'flop' technique needs some practice.

Hopefully this week's weather will be a little warmer, as once again 33 metres of all strokes will be run as well as a 66 metres BBB.

Could swimmers please note in the book which of the "B's" they will be swimming, that is Breaststroke, Backstroke or Butterfly.

A final reminder roll call is at 5.45pm so we can start exactly at 6.00pm. Good luck to all!
