Swimmers look forward to presentation night

19 Mar, 2008 07:26 AM
A final big Friday night and swimming Club finished its swimming for the season with the 400m championships which saw streamlined distance swimming.

After a break for Good Friday next week Friday 28th March is the AGM followed by Presentation night.

There is no need to avoid the night for fear of getting an unwanted job, as most jobs are provisionally spoken for. [ however if some one would like to volunteer for a position or learn one for the future, they will be welcomed with open arms.]

Following the AGM there will be presentations where championship and point score trophies will be handed out, so please be there as there will be photos at the end and these look magnificent if all swimmers are present.

A free barbecue will follow presentations as the 2007/08 season is finally wrapped up.

Anyway back to this week’s swimmers where greatest improvements again came from the 66m BBB event.

Meg Austin led the way with a 29 second improvement in her breaststroke swim backed up by Amelia Holmes who slashed her time by 22 seconds for the same stroke.

Sam Flannery returned to breaststroke with an 18 second demolition of her previous best while Pip Johnson took 15 seconds off her two laps of backstroke. Ali Beath and Rosie Beath [no relation] removed 9 seconds from their breaststroke times before Amanda Ovington lowered her time by 8 seconds. Brocke Harvey Dale continued her fine night with a 7 second improvement while Tayla Huckle took 5 seconds off her 66m butterfly time.

Adelaide Ellis backstroked 4 seconds quicker than before while Elijah Beath sliced his breaststroke by 2 seconds.

Once again the 33m freestyle, or spoon final, was a very close race with Brocke Harvey-Dale touching out the competition in a new time of 24 seconds.

Adelaide Ellis showed the benefits of training under the excellent club captains as she lopped 9 seconds off her 33m breaststroke time.

Harriet Balcomb, Ali Beath and Josh Flannery followed up with 2 second improvements in the same stroke.

The 33m butterfly also showcased improvers as Jacob Nash led the way with a 9 second improvement closely followed by sister Renae with a 7 second improvement.

Sara Naylor was next with a decrease of 5 seconds while Tim Wythes and Brocke Harvey-Dale removed 2 seconds from their times.

In the 66m freestyle Stewart Russell showed his freestyle improvement last week was no fluke as he knocked 10 seconds off his two freestyle laps.

Michael Brown and Peta Edwards clipped 2 seconds from their times for the two laps of freestyle a good effort after their fine showing in the 400m freestyle earlier in the night.

There was a 'final' flop-off for the belly flop competition as Dan Middleton, Tim Wythes, James and Madison Vitnell were all tied on points.

So after much encouragement from the hill all four flopped their best with the winner announced in two weeks at presentation night.

In a grand climax to the season 50 swimmers took part in the relay which left five lanes of ten swimmers and after one false start due to mishearing handicap starting times the frenzy was on with screams of encouragement from all along the pool.

Coming in first in lane three were Skye Robson, Sophie Tremain, Rosie Beath, Josh Flannery, Jake Wythes, Michael Brown, Madi Vitnell, Amy Wythes, Harriet Balcomb and Isaac Beath, congratulations to all.
