On Friday March 5, Canowidra Public School students Amelia Holmes and Julia Wright travelled to Dubbo to compete in the Western Region Primary Schools Swimming Carnival.
Both girls had performed well at the district carnival in Cowra and joined an eager contingent of swimmers at the Dubbo event.
Overcast and rainy conditions had little effect on the competitors and both girls swam exceptionally well in the more competitive environment.
Julia in the under 8's 50m freestyle finished 2nd in her heat and equal 5th overall - taking over 4 seconds off her best time from Cowra.
Amelia in her race the under 11's freestyle also rose to the occasion finishing a worthy 5th in the heat and in the top 10 overall.
Both Julia and Amelia and their road tripping dads would like to thank the district organisers for helping out on the day.
In particular thanks to the Canowindra Primary School and town swimming coaches and the swimming club in Canowindra whose efforts help so many young local swimmers to progress and represent at a higher level.
