Swimming begins under threat of rain

12 Nov, 2008 09:30 AM
Under the threat of rain Canowindra Swimming Club began their 2008 – 09 season with a short programme on Friday night.

This consisted of 33 metre races in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly before the night wrapped up with the obligatory mass relay.

One of the most pleasing aspects of this season is the number of adult swimmers who have signed up to race their children.

Leading the way are Katrina Earsman, Alison Wythes, Tony Beath and Kim and Nigel Roberts, while Kim Dale and Rossanne Holmes are expected to reregister soon.

Katrina led the way as she time-trialed in all four strokes, while Kim and Nigel did all bar the backstroke.

The brother-sister competition will come to the fore in the Wythes-Beath swims as the females along the pool deck seem to be supporting Alison in her quest to defeat her big brother.

This sets the scene for a competitive season as siblings race each other as well as their children, while Nigel and Kim will set the benchmark for their children in the future.

Improvers after the first Friday night were led by Cassie Naylor who lowered her 33m freestyle time by two seconds before her slashed her breaststroke time by three seconds.

Tom Robson took a massive eight seconds from his lap of breaststroke while Eloise Beath, Tim Wythes and Georgia Brown removed three seconds from their best times for the same stroke.

The relay was won by the team in lane two: Skye Robson, Eloise Beath, Rohan Toole, Kim Roberts, Nigel Roberts and Jake Wythes.

Events this week are the four 33m, the relay and the 66m freestyle and 66m BBB, please swimmers remember to sign the blue folder before 6pm on Thursday it makes the running of the Friday night go much smoother and no one misses out on swimming their heat.
