Swimming times tumble

14 Dec, 2011 07:54 AM
Swimming times continued to tumble as the swimmers look forward to their Christmas break.

Winning the Spoon must do wonders for confidence as Samuel Brand smashed his 33m freestyle time by 11 seconds after his breakthrough win last week.

Lydia Coady continues to amaze as she dropped her time by 6 seconds and swam her self out of the spoon semis, along with Joe Besedic who slashed 3 seconds from his best time.

Nick Jeffrey and Zac Giger took 2 seconds from their times in the heat and another second from it in the semi.

Two second improvements came from Will Wright, Zac Giger and Jamie Austin, while Talitha Stanley, Anna McNamara, Max Coady, Jossie Lynch and Molly Grant all dropped their freestyle times by a second.

[Imagine reading the next paragraph with the sound of triumphant trumpets in the background.........] Winning the spoon in a personal best time of 23 seconds was Amara Flannery as she powered down the pool, overhauled a 24 second handicap start and touched ahead of lane five by a quarter of a second. Well done Amara!!!

Bill Harrison breaststroked down the pool like a very young Brenton Rickard as he smashed his best time by 19 seconds while sister Maise Harrison looked like another Leisel Jones as she took 8 seconds from her PB.

Samuel Brand, Zac Giger and Abbey Slattery knocked 4 seconds from their previous best times, closely followed by Tim Wythes, Jake Wythes and Hannah Johnson who dropped 3 seconds off their times.

Hannah Etty took 6 seconds off her time for the lap of backstroke while Eliza Mitchell, Jamie Austin and Madeline Cooper removed three seconds from their best times.

Caitlin Brand and Charlotte Balcomb backstroked 2 seconds faster while Mitchell Stanley beat nine other challengers to take out the Belly Flop competition.

In the graceful butterfly the graceful Julia Stanley led the improvers as she took 10 seconds off her time, Georgia Balcomb removed 3 seconds from her best while Molly Grant, Jake Wythes and Charlotte Cooper all butterflyed 1 second faster than before.

The Medley saw 13 swimmers swim the event for the first time while established swimmers all dropped their times.

Stewart Russell led the way as he slaughtered his old time by 37 seconds just ahead of Georgia Balcomb and Amelia Holmes who slashed their times by 35 seconds.

Joe Coady improved by 24 seconds, Alicia Earsman 10 seconds, Jayden Brown 8 seconds and Regan Hughes 4 seconds. Well done to all swimmers who contested the Medley.

Sixty swimmers stayed to the end to compete in the Relay and it was a close swum race with Lane 2 winning. Swimming in lane 2 were Lydia Coady, Kaitlin McKay, Talitha Stanley, Nicholas Jeffrey, Josie Clements, Angus Fisher, Jennifer Holmes, Jake Wythes, Alicia Earsman and Regan Hughes.

This Friday marks the last week of Swimming Club for 2011 so sign up and be ready for roll call at 5:45pm
