Swimming Club started the New Year with a respectable roll up of 45 swimmers.
Despite being the New Year, or maybe because it was the New Year and everyone was relaxed, times tumbled with Harry Coady breaking his 33m freestyle time by 8 seconds.
Lucas Ellis must have enjoyed Christmas because he took 9 seconds off his time in the next freestyle heat.
Patrick Hickman dropped his time by 4 seconds while Samuel Brand took 2 seconds off his PB.
Hannah Etty, Wade Kinsela and Brooke Kinsela all dropped their times by a second.
In the Spoon semis Sam Brand made it a total improvement of 7 seconds as he broke his new time by 5 seconds while Caleb Giger dropped his time by 4 seconds and swam himself out of the Final.
Georgie Fisher improved her time by 2 seconds in the semi and went extremely close to taking out the Spoon but a fast-finishing Caitlin Brand took home the spoon in a personal best time of 30 seconds.
In the 33m backstroke Caitlin followed her excellent swimming in the Spoon as she smashed her time by 7 seconds while Mitchell Stanley and Adelaide Ellis took 2 seconds off their best times.
Ryan Ellis showed great improvement in his breaststroke as he smashed his time by 15 seconds in the 33m for that stroke while Josie Mitchell took 6 seconds off her personal best.
Harriet Balcomb and Samuel Brand dropped their 33m breaststroke times by 4 seconds closely followed by Georgie Fisher and Caitlin Brand improved their times by 3 seconds.
Samuel Brand and Claire Wright breaststroked 2 seconds faster than before while Hannah Etty clipped her best time by 1 second.
In the hardest yet most beautiful of strokes the 33m butterfly Millie Balcomb and Angus Andrews led the way as they dropped 4 seconds from their PB’s.
Georgia Balcomb, Claire Wright and Talitha Stanley took 3 seconds off their times while Harriet Balcomb made it a Balcomb trifecta as she, and Hannah Etty dropped their times by a second for the lap of butterfly.
The most dramatic improvements of the night came from the 66BBB as swimmers were more confident in the two laps of their favourite stroke.
Caleb Etty was the standout as he annihilated his previous best for 66m breaststroke by 84 seconds.
Lara Hawker wasn’t too far behind as she smashed her previous best time by 73 seconds.
Julia Stanley and Riley Mitchell shattered their PBs by 20 seconds while Caitlin Brand made it a huge night as she took 15 seconds off her 66 breaststroke time.
Regan Hughes took 10 seconds off his 66m butterfly PB closely while Josh Flannery and Claire Wright improved their 66m breaststroke also by 10 seconds.
Harriet Balcomb took 11 seconds off her two laps of breaststroke closely followed by sister Millie who lowered her 66m breaststroke time by 7 seconds. [Someone has been training in their new pool????]
Lucy Hickman took 6 seconds from her breaststroke time just ahead of sister Amelia who lowered her breaststroke PB by 4 seconds.
Out of the 45 swimmers 30 competed in the relay with lane four coming home the winners 4 seconds ahead of a fast finishing lane six.
Taking home the relay pennants were Ellie Giger, Claire Wright, Angus Andrews, Mitchell Stanley and Josh Flannery.
All swimmers please take note:- if you start ahead of your handicap time in any swim you will be disqualified, unless you turn around and touch the end of the pool and then start again.
The officials do not like disqualifying anyone but all swimmers know the rules now and we are coming up to Championships in February so check your handicap before you start your swims.
