Raiders lose star duo to injury but prop signs new deal

13 Mar, 2011 12:26 AM

CANBERRA had a day of mixed fortunes yesterday with one star re-signing, but another two ruled out of today's clash with Cronulla.

NSW Origin prop Tom Learoyd-Lahrs has committed to the club until the end of the 2014 season, using the club's members-only day to make his announcement.

"It's great to have my future organised before the new season and to stay in Canberra is the right decision for me and, more importantly, my family," Learoyd-Lahrs said. "I want to give back to the club that's given me so much, and I truly believe we're in for a few special seasons.''

Veteran halfback Matt Orford has been ruled out with an adductor injury, and while 19-year-old Sam Williams was named in his place, it was suggested Alan Tongue could assume the halfback duties. Boom fullback Josh Dugan will also miss today's Canberra Stadium match due to a corked thigh. A Raiders spokesman confirmed yesterday that David Milne would replace him at the back of the Green Machine.

''Sam's a crafty little player, and in both our trial games he was a standout,'' Tongue said.
