The challenge began in September 2003 and finishes in August 2004, by which time, participants must have read 20 books or more at an appropriate
level.
At least fifteen of the books must come from the challenge list, with another five being of personal choice.
Each student that achieves the target is awarded a special certificate, signed by NSW Premier, Mr Bob Carr.
Students who participate for four years in a row will receive a gold certificate.
School Reading Recovery Teacher and Literacy Coordinator, Mrs Maureen Knight is very impressed with the challenge.
"We are always trying to find ways to encourage children to read, so that they cannot only expand their skills, but also develop a love of literature.
This scheme provides a great incentive to young readers”.
