Program helps children bounce into 'big' school

Canowindra Public School has a new kindergarten transition project called Kinderbounce to help children make the jump to primary school.

It is an extension of the school’s other successful transition programs and is designed to ensure that children going into Kinder are very well prepared, explained school spokesperson Peta Laurie.

The program is available to children who turn 5 before 1st August, 2012, but aren’t yet coming to school.

They will be able to start Kindergarten part time, from the time they turn 5.

The amount of time will be up to half a day per week at a time that is negotiated.

It will not commence until Term 3 and will be included in the normal orientation programs in Term 4.

It will be at no cost to the family.

The program is not to be run instead of preschool or playgroup.

Part time attendance will only be arranged outside of these times and as an extension to these activities.

“All our tranisition programs aim to make the move from home to school smoother,” Ms Laurie said.

“By the end of 2012 all potential 2013 enrolments will have participated in a range of activities designed to prepare them for ‘big school’.”
