This month,folk@Canowindra is privileged to have Christina Wheeler featuring at its gathering which will be this coming Sunday, April 27th, 4-6:15pm.
Christine was lead singer and manager of award winning Australian Celtic band Wheelers and Dealers for ten years.
'Christine has a voice that matches the warmth and clarity of your end of day malt' (Springboard Media, UK).
Poetry set to music is an ancient concept, as old as secular song itself.
Christine sings from the poetry of different continents and different centuries.
From Bob Dylan, the reluctant prophet of a generation, to Victor Jara, whose songs became a potent weapon for political change.
From iconic Greek composer and social activist Mikis Theodorakis to those provocative Texans Nanci Griffith and the Dixie Chicks.
From Karine Polwart's prophetic lyrics to anonymous songs from 19th century Ireland and 14 th century Spain that continue to speak of universal human dilemmas.
So, we are looking forward to hearing Christine, and the other open mic performers (acoustic music and poetry) this Sunday afternoon at taste Canowindra (Ferguson St). Everyone is welcome, it's a warm, friendly and creative place to spend an autumn afternoon.
