Canowindra trainers David and Ned Grant were extremely proud of their two-year-old bitch, Cheeky Grant, which won the final and her four-and-a-half-year-old kennelmate Real Shiraz, which came third.
"You wouldn't be in the game if you didn't think you could get down town," Grant said.
"But to have a Wenty Park winner so early in our training career is great."
After winning by a number of lengths in her previous runs at Dubbo, Cheeky Grant went into the Dubbo To Wenty Final odds on favourite.
And she showed why, demonstrating blistering speed, pulling away from the field after a tight jump from box two along side second favourite Olli Charlyn ($5.30) .
Real Shiraz ($5.60) looked likely to finish second throughout the race but settled to finish third behind Olli Charlyn on the run home.
Grant was over-the-moon with the win collecting $3,630 in prize money for the win.
"We floated home, it was unreal," Grant said.
"We were really hoping to nab the quinella. But old Shiraz just couldn't get across in time. We're not griping though, first and third down there is a great effort."
Grant said he's looking to diversify in the future with his eye set on the nation's Capital.
"We might give them a run in Canberra and see what is on offer there," he said.
"If that pays off we'll take the girls back down to Sydney again."
In the meantime however Grant said he will be racing his other dogs around the local area in an attempt to develop them into the standard of their biggest money earners Cheeky Grant and Real Shiraz.
"We've got a lot of other dogs so we'll race them at Bathurst and Dubbo until they get to the stage of these girls and then we can take them down town," Grant said.
