While the program will continue until Monday, October 6, the official Open Day will be held today, with children admitted to the museum free of charge with a paying adult.
At 11am the famous author Mim Loomes will read to the children from her magnificent book "Long Ago, but not far away" featuring our famous fish.
All ages are welcome and the reading will be followed by a lunchtime grand sausage sizzle for a gold coin donation.
Age of Fishes museum manager, Warren Keedle said the program, which has included art competitions and activity and information gathering sessions, has been well-received.
"It's doing really well, the children have loved it and they've all taken their lovely fossil home with them," he said.
"We're averaging about 40 or 50 people through each day at the moment which is great and the Saturday of the show was probably our busiest yet."
