Three competitions later and he is heading to the World Championships at the Gold Coast on November 2.
"It's a bit of a spin-out considering I've been training on my own in my shed for 10 years," he said.
"A lot of other competitors ask me where I train, it's a bit of spin out for them too," he laughed.
Since winning the New South Title, Wheeldon competed for the Australian World Fitness Federation Title in Hobart where he came third, qualifying for the World Championships which is a professional qualifier.
"It's a pro qualifier so the winner gets to go on the World tour doing shows."
"Right now I'm training three or four times day, you've got to be in it to win it," Wheeldon said of his chances.
Incredibly, Wheeldon's body weight went from 87 kilograms at the event two Saturday's ago to 101 kilograms after it, as of yesterday morning he had returned to 93.5 where and will continue to work down to the required weight of 87 for the World title.
"It's crazy how the body reacts," he said.
"If you eat some maccas after draining your body it just soaks up absolutely everything, but it's back under control now."
Wheeldon - now 38 years of age and on the cusp of being eligible for the masters championships - says he's hugely excited and never expected his first three body building competitions to be State Titles, National Titles and now World Titles.
"It's great, the kids are getting a kick out of it and I'm also launching a new on-line supplements business which ties in perfectly with what I'm doing.
"It's just how it's worked out, I thought I was just doing another sporting thing to tick off the bucket list, but who would've thought."
