Canowindra Show Society have received $15, 000 for a new sheep pavilion and Central West Team Penning scored $10,250 for permanent lighting of the team penning arena at Canowindra.

Show Society president Geoffrey Beath said they now have more that $100, 000 to play with for the project, which will see the old shearing shed turned into a multipurpose facility and function room.

The show society secured the support of Council after making it clear the project would be for the "benefit of the Canowindra community", Mr Beath said.

"Every second weekend of the year, the showground is being used.

"The more facilities we have at the showground, the more events we can have there. The more funding we get, the better job we can do too," he said.

"It's not just a sheep shed for two days of the year, we have to think outside the square and make it a facility we can use year-round."

The existing shed is flagged for demolition in January; with construction on the new shed set to begin in March.

Mr Beath said they hope the shed will be operational before next year's show.

Also flagged for funding in this round of community grants is the Cumnock Golf Club, Molong Advancement Group, Borenore Progress Association, Nashdale Sports and Social Club, Nashdale-Lidster Hall and Eugowra Promotion and Progress Association.
