The NRL have backed the NSW state government's decision to allocate $600 million for stadiums in Sydney. This will begin with the upgrade of Allianz Stadium, as funding is made available from 2017-18.

As part of the $1.2 billion reserved for sports and cultural infrastructure in the state infrastructure strategy report, $600 million has been allocated to sport.
It green-lights the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust to finalise the upgrade plans for Allianz Stadium.
The government will continue to assess potential upgrades at Sydney Olympic and Parramatta but is yet to commit to any development at ANZ Stadium or Pirtek Stadium until a cost -benefit analysis has been completed.
NRL chief executive Dave Smith believes Allianz Stadium should be the priority.
"Upgrading Allianz is a logical first step and there is no doubt it will become a cornerstone of Sydney's stadia network," Smith said.
"A second world-class stadium, however, is needed in central western Sydney and we will continue to work with the Government on the best possible solution.
"These are decisions that shape the long-term future and we are determined that the fans of today, and the fans of tomorrow, get the best outcome."
The $1.2 billion allocation is a substantial increase from the $500 million originally outlined for sports and cultural infrastructure.
The Parramatta Eels and Western Sydney Wanderers have been lobbying for an upgrade that will see Pirtek Stadium capacity lifted from 20,000 to up to 35,000.
It is estimated Pirtek Stadium will receive close to $150 million in funding, which would be enough to increase the capacity to the desired figure, while ANZ Stadium will receive a similar amount.
ANZ Stadium recently announced a $350 million upgrade proposal that would include moveable grandstands for rectangular sporting use as well as a retractable roof.
"Stadium management looks forward to follow-up discussions with government and providing a cost/benefit analysis for upgrading ANZ Stadium, which generates $301 million a year in economic activity for the State of NSW," ANZ Stadium managing director Daryl Kerrysaid.
Allianz Stadium is likely to receive close to $300 million to upgrade the 45,000 seat stadium which is in dire need of refurbishment and technological advancements.
While around $350 million will be required for an upgrade of the ground, it is understood more than $800 million is needed to tear down the current facility and build a new stadium at the Moore Park precinct.
The government will also identify long term options for the construction of an outer western Sydney stadium.
It is believed the location of a potential new stadium in western Sydney hinges on the construction of Badgerys Creek airport, with Penrith and Liverpool the leading candidates for a new ground capable of hosting high-profile events.
