The Council made the donations at this week’s May meeting, allocating $300 to St John’s Anglican Church, Molong, to help establish a community garden; $200 for Cumnock Public School Parents and Citizens Committee’s annual soccer and netball carnival and $200 to Central West WIRES to assist it the rescue and care of injured or orphaned native wildlife.
A Manildra resident, who has spent many years with the Manildra First Responder group, also received $300 to help cover the costs of a study tour to Canada as part of his paramedic studies.
Michael Reimer is one of 20 university students selected from 400 who will travel to Canada to ride along with paramedics from Alberta Emergency Services and view the dispatch centre and training facility at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Cumnock’s annual soccer and netball carnival has been one of the village’s major events for the past 30 years, attracting visitors from around the Central West and raising funds for resources and programs for the public school.
Mayor Michael Hayes said Cabonne Council had a proud history of supporting local charities, volunteers and causes.
“So far this year, Council has allocated almost $6000 to groups and individuals who contribute greatly to the well being of their communities,” he said.
