The two day Adventurous Journey led by Mr Andrew Phelan, Mr Mark Edwards and Mrs Ruth Evans commenced from Canowindra High School on the Thursday morning with students cycling to Billimari via Bangaroo Rd where they stopped for morning tea.
From Billimari they followed Merriganowry Rd and Lachlan Valley Way into Gooloogong.
Once in Gooloogong the students were treated to ice blocks and soft drinks at the Gooloogong Hotel.
After lunch they continued their trip out to Tim and Ashley Wright's property on Casuarina Rd where they enjoyed a break for afternoon tea and then returned to Gooloogong to set up camp at the caravan park.
The students were responsible for preparing and cooking their own dinner on their portable stoves and retired quite happily to their swags and tents for a good night's sleep.
In the morning, the students were invited to visit Gooloogong Public School to talk to the younger students about their trip.
The primary school students were also eager to show off their skills on their very own BMX track.
The return trip to Canowindra via The Rivers Rd presented an extra challenge with rain setting in for most of the morning.
The students got a brief reprieve from the weather by stopping in at Bruce and Carolyn Austin's property to grab a bite to eat under the shelter of the hay shed.
With the end in sight the students took the opportunity to ride down the main street with many locals applauding their efforts.
The students would like to thank Sandra Frecklington and Kylie Lawrence for driving the support vehicle throughout the trip and for looking after them in times of need, Don Percival for servicing their bikes and even lending a few of his own bikes out so that all students could take part, Sarah Windus from The Gooloogong Hotel, Mr Adrian Smith and the kids at Gooloogong Public School and the Austin and Wright families for allowing us to drop in for breaks at their properties.
The following students are to be congratulated on their efforts: Hudson Izzard, Seraphin Keedle, Jackson Windus, Sarah Treavors, Simon Budden, Isaac Andrew, Tess Chester-Frecklington, Zali Dunn, Wade Kinsela, Jamie Austin (Year 9), Mitchell Clark, William Wright, Julia Stanley, Hamish Gregson, Liam Lazarou (Year 10).
