Rumour has it that Russell Turner and John Davis are jockeying to be the administrator for the council created through the forced amalgamation of Blayney Cabonne and Orange if the court action by Cabonne Council to stop the amalgamation is unsuccessful.
When Orange is experiencing the loss of thousands of jobs with the closure of Electrolux, the Dick Smith and Myer stores, downsizing at Cadia Operations and in government agencies, the people of Orange would be better served by Davis and Turner focusing on their jobs as councillors acting in the interests of the ratepayers of Orange rather than acting out of self-interest seeking a high-paid unelected position.
Orange cannot afford the time wasted in bedding down an unpopular forced amalgamation of the three councils, a process that will take at least three to five years and yield few positive outcomes.
Turner and Davis would be wise to support Andrew Gee in his efforts to stop the forced amalgamation opposed by the majority of the ratepayers of Cabonne and Blayney and at least a third of those in Orange.
