Linda Burney

The newly elected member for the NSW seat of ​Barton, Ms Burney is the first Aboriginal woman to sit in the House of Representatives and a member of Labor's Left.

A Wiradjuri woman, the 59-year-old is a former deputy NSW Labor leader and state government minister.

Carol Brown

From Tasmania, Senator Brown entered Parliament in 2005 and has previously served as deputy government whip in the Senate and as a shadow parliamentary secretary.

The 53-year-old is a member of Labor's Left.

Sam Dastyari 

Senator Dastyari is the Iranian-born former NSW Labor general secretary and right faction powerbroker.

First appointed to the Senate in 2013, the 32-year-old travelled on Mr Shorten's bus during the election campaign and helped Kevin Rudd roll Julia Gillard as prime minister.

Ed Husic 

Member for the NSW seat Chifley, Mr Husic, along with Senator Dastyari, become Australia's first Muslim MPs to reach ministerial level.

First elected in 2010, the 46-year-old is a former national president of the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union and member of Labor's Right faction.

Clare O'Neil 

Member for the Victorian seat of Hotham, Ms O'Neil was the youngest female mayor in Australian history and is a member of the Labor Right.

First elected in 2013, she attended Harvard University and co-authored a book with Labor MP Tim Watts.
