Maddi guessed approximately 200 people attended Light the Night but couldn’t yet put a figure on how many funds were raised for the Leukaemia Foundation.
“There was definitely a lot more people than last year. The football match between the league and union attracted a big crowd, more than they’d get during their seasons,” Maddi said.
“A lot of people stayed from that, everyone loved the football game, the support was really good.
“We don’t know how much we raised, we’re still calculating and waiting for some donations from Saturday.”
While the football attracted many spectators, entertainment during the afternoon also included music from a number of local bands and artists as well as performances from students of Alikinetic Dance in Canowindra.
Maddi said 46 market stalls offered local produce to those in attendance throughout the afternoon and evening, an amount she hopes to see increase in the future.
“We’d like to see that figure get up near 60,” she said.
“After Christmas and a few months off we’ll get together again and discuss next year’s.
“Hopefully we can make the football game an annual thing and hopefully we continue to get bigger and better.
“I think it’s an important event for Canowindra,” Maddi added.
Maddie thanked Light the Night sponsors Kinsela’s Agriculture, Ken’s Service Centre and David Rice Transport, as well as multiple businesses in Canowindra for supporting this year’s event and also Chris Watson for photographing.
