The driver of a car involved in a fatal crash in Wollongong has been dramatically rescued by residents.

The vehicle burst into flames after it struck a tree on Cleveland Road, Dapto, just after 2am on Friday, trapping two men inside.
After hearing the crash, the residents rushed to free the 24-year-old driver and dragged him from the burning car, police said.
The passenger died in the crash.
The driver remains in a critical condition in Wollongong Hospital.
Inspector Paul Allman said investigators believe "speed is definitely a factor here".
Inspector Allman said the driver would be "facing some serious charges" but investigators were still determining the circumstances of the crash.
He appealed to drivers to "just slow down" as the holiday season approaches.
Three NSW Fire and Rescue crews helped extinguish the blaze.
Cleveland Road was closed in both directions after the crash but has now reopened.
