The match of the weekend, though, was Saturday’s minor semi-final between Canowindra and Morongla.
With more than 400 runs scored on the day, a strong-crowd was treated to a thrilling match resulting in Canowindra scoring a 12 run win.
Despite playing in a losing side Morongla opening batsman Jacob McNaught stole the limelight, playing a spectacular innings to put his side in contention of chasing Canowindra’s 230, but unfortunately departed on 99 – one short of what would have been a remarkable century.
McNaught was in devastating form, blasting Canowindra’s bowlers to all corners of the ground.
A misjudged sweep shot against the off-spin of Josh Carmody was his downfall when there was six overs remaining and 41 runs required.
Runs became less fluent from there and Canowindra grounded out a tough victory.
At Young, Bowling Club crushed the Blues in a massive 120-run win.
Openers Ross Graham (66) and Nick Berry (76) put on 146 for the first wicket on their side’s way to 234. The Blues were cleaned up for 114, at one stage reeling at 3-4.
Blues made full use of their second chance on Sunday, scoring an emphatic win against Canowindra to fill the second spot in the decider and issue a reminder to Bowling Club of what they’re capable of.
Young proved too strong at Holman Oval, posting 203 and restricting Canowindra to just 95.
Luke Cosgrove (64) and Josh Platt (49) top scored while Brendan Croese (3-21) and Javarn Hurcum (3-21) were the side’s leading wicket takers. This Saturday’s final will begin from 1pm at Holman Oval.
