The launch of “The History and Character of Belmore / Moorbel” on Saturday March 25, in Moorbel Community Hall, was a joyous occasion, well celebrated by the 70 people attending.

Master-of-ceremonies Warwick Bowd passed the book to long time resident Dick Marsh, who in turn passed it to former Postmaster Gwen Landon, thence to author Debbie Rutter - and the latest book on Canowindra district local histories was launched.
All present then enjoyed a superb morning tea provided by Moorbel Hall community group.
Historical Society President Ross Cleary noted that the importance of these local histories was keeping alive and celebrating the memories and stories of our past, for both “old” and “new” residents.
It would be easy today to see Moorbel as simply a few houses on the outskirts of Canowindra, and not be aware of the thriving and independent settlement that Moorbel once was, with its own businesses, schools and churches.
And why was the original name of Belmore changed to Moorbel?
