More than 100 people lined Gaskill Street for the Anzac march before gathering at Memorial Park for this year’s Anzac commemoration – the 102nd anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli.
During the address, Mr Hodder spoke about how pleased he was to see so many in attendance especially of the younger generation.
He said it’s important we continue to acknowledge Australia’s and New Zealand’s defence personnel of the past and present into the future.
“On this day around our great nation we stop to remember the sacrifice of Australia and New Zealand personnel of the Australian Imperial Forces who stepped onto the shores of Gallipoli and for the next nine months fought the Turkish Ottoman Empire, forging the legends of the Anzacs, and the term digger,” Mr Hodder said.
“Many stories of bravery, sacrifice and courage were born during the Gallipoli campaign.
“Heroism, selflessness. Mates were fighting with and for mates. Australians willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice.”
Families, various community groups and schools from Canowindra and Cargo marched and laid wreaths to pay tribute to those who have served in battle.
