The dance floor in Canowindra is well known throughout the dancing community as being the best in the Central West and it didn’t disappoint on this occasion, attracting dancers from as far away as the North Coast.
The Cowra based group have started holding events in Canowindra after the Cowra Services Club earlier this year underwent renovations which saw the removal of the club’s wooden dance floor.
Not content with just Saturday’s evening event, for the visitors to town a follow-up dance was held on Sunday to dance away the sore muscles and enjoy a bit lunch and conversation before the long drive home.
Local member of the organising committee Anne Vincent said: “visitors were unanimous in their praise, not only of the dancing functions but also of the meal provided by the Club, the various places of accommodation and Canowindra’s hospitality in general.
“It’s great publicity for the town,” she said.
Figures have yet to be finalised but proceeds from the Ball and raffle should be almost $2000 and will be donated to the community project Raising for the Read Triplets.
First prize in the raffle, Chaffcutter's Cottage weekend retreat donated by Anne and Mark Ward, was won by Robyn Bussa from Ulladulla.
Second prize of a $100 fuel voucher, was won by Pat Howard from Bathurst.
