Trained by Trevor Birmingham, Monster Black’s latest triumph came at Dubbo’s Dawson Park on Sunday where he led from box eight in the Ladrokes Stakes.
It was a strong performance from the Canowindra greyhound, who was forced to work one wide the entire 318m trip to pip Rodney Keeping at the line in a slick 18.30s.
All A Miss finished a further one-and-a-half lengths back in third.
Monster Black has registered 12 wins from 41 career starts, and has provided Bermingham with plenty of reasons to smile particularly in recent months.
The two-year-old son of Monster Jack and Black Queen is on a remarkable run of consistent form, having notched six wins and three minor placings from his past 10 starts.
His two victories prior to Sunday’s Dubbo win came at Cowra and Bathurst.
Bathurst, Monday night
Canowindra trainers were among the winners at Bathurst’s Kennerson Park on Monday, with David Grant and Brian Thronhill both training race victors.
Thornhill’s consistent chaser Moorbel Betty took out the Vic Hotel Stakes (450m) in a quick time of 26.24s from the seven box.
Darting ahead of the field at the jump, Moorbel Betty kept a number of chasers at bay and showed good speed at the final bend to edge out Temple Gate and Leacoco about two lengths back.
The result marks the three-year-old bitch’s seventh win of a 38 start career, and her second victory at the track and distance.
David Grant’s trained Sista Grant recorded her second career triumph at the same venue, winning the Bathurst RSL Club Stakes as a massive outsider.
The daughter of Fancy Dean and Real Shiraz was sent out by punters at $37 yet claimed a dominant win despite being bumped at the first bend.
Launching from box eight, the bitch of 19 starts showed plenty of speed over the 520m to stop the clock at 30.40s, beating Madam Scarlet and race favourite Midnight Emma.
It’s the two-year-old’s second win, boosting her record which also contains eight minor placings.
Marbo’s still got magic
Paul Braddon has seen many of his dogs score wins at Dawson Park but he took special satisfaction from seeing Marbo’s Magic claim victory on Thursday at Dubbo.
Marbo’s Magic made the move to Victoria but failed to settle south of the border and then he had a number of injury troubles so he returned back home.
He showed he still has plenty of talent, powering to an impressive two-and-three-quarter length win.
