Former AFL executive Ali Fahour has been charged by police over an alleged on-field punch that resulted in him being banned from football for life.

Victoria Police confirmed that a 35-year-old Preston man had been charged on summons with intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury and unlawful assault following the incident in the Northern Football League match in Whittlesea last Saturday.
The Northern Football League handed Fahour a lifetime ban over the incident. He also resigned from his job as AFL diversity manager.
He is due to face Heidelberg Magistrates Court on October 1.
