Sally, who competes under the Cowra Cobras Triathlon Club banner, received recognition as a monthly award winner during the 12 months to June at the Cowra Services Club on Saturday night, after representing Australia at the ITU Sprint World Championships in September.
Lisa Curry, whose hour long presentation captivated the audience, presented each monthly winner with a trophy, before announcing world champion speedway racer Matthew Gilmore as the 2016-2017 Sportsperson of the Year.
Lisa spoke about the time she trained on Christmas Day, and her return to the Olympics at the age of 30 with two kids and after coming 63rd in the 50 metre freestyle in her comeback at nationals.
”Congratulations to Cowra Sportsperson of the year committee for once again holding a very special night acknowledging sports people of the district on their achievements,” Sally said in a post on the Cowra Guardian Facebook page.
“It was a great night and Lisa Curry was a very inspiring speaker. Congratulations to young Matthew Gilmore for being selected as Sportsperson of The Year for the second year in a row, outstanding achievement for a talented motorcycle rider of the present and future.”
“It was very special to be a nominee and a part of the night.”
