Adrian Ethan Slattery, formerly of Canowindra now living in Logan Street, Cowra, pleaded guilty to the driving charges at Cowra Local Court on Wednesday, July 19 and possessing .5g of marijuana.
At court, Slattery’s solicitor Clive Hill said his client had given up smoking marijuana.
“He knows he can’t keep a licence and a habit. He’s been abstinent since the day of the offence,” Mr Hill said.
According to police facts, Slattery was driving a grey Lexus sedan when he was stopped for a random breath test on Tilga Street, Canowindra about 9pm on April 15.
You’ve made some dreadful decisions.
- Magistrate Michael O'Brien
When asked to produce a drivers licence, Slattery told police he has a learners licence but he wasn’t carrying it.
Police checks revealed his licence suspended.
He was subject to a breath test and oral fluid test which returned a positive detection to cannabis.
A search found .5g of cannabis wrapped in foil in his pants pocket.
He admitted to having smoked cannabis the day before.
“You’ve made some dreadful decisions,” Magistrate Michael O’Brien said to Slattery.
“You say you’ve stopped taking cannabis. It can remain in your system for a significant period of time. I hope that’s the truth.”
“It’s 100 percent the truth,” Slattery replied.
He was convicted on all charges, fined $400 and ordered to enter a good behaviour bond for 12 months.
- Community service
A Cowra man has been sentenced to community service after being charged with common assault and intimidation.
Christopher Symons, 34, was arrested about 12.15am on March 27 after police were called to a residence on Jindalee Circuit.
He has to complete 100 hours of community service for both charges.
