In no particular order the first preference elections are: Marlene Nash with 8.34 per cent of the vote, Jamie Jones with 7.80 per cent, Cheryl Newsom with 8.18 per cent, Greg Treavors with 9.34 per cent, Kevin Walker with 11.22 per cent, Kevin Beatty with 12.22 per cent and Peter Batten 11.45 per cent.
Councilor elect Kevin Walker, who picked up a massive 449 votes at the polls at Canowindra High School, said he expected the support at his home town.
“I didn’t do any campaigning in the lead up,” Deputy Mayor Walker said.
“We’ll find out more soon. You only have to come in the top 12 that’s all that matters,” he said.
It turns out that campaigning may have been important with Cheryl Newsom pipping him by two votes at the polls at Eugowra Public School.
A high informal vote count was also recorded with 10 per cent of the votes being counted invalid.
Cr Walker thought Duncan Brakell may have been shown more support by Cabonne’s ratepayers.
Vying for the remaining five positions, incumbents Anthony Durkin and Ian Davison are still short of the quota, as are Paul Mullins, Jenny Weaver, Derek Johnson, Duncan Brakell, Libby Oldham.
With Ian Davison and Libby Oldham the closest to the magic 586 votes to be elected.
Cabonne Council's Constitutional Referendum was also passed with 60 per cent of formal voters in favour of reducing the Councillor numbers from 12 to nine in 2020.
