Canowindra’s Bailey Kennedy has secured his place in two events at next month’s PSSA State Athletics Championships, and in the process smashed the 11 years boys high jump record.

Competing at the Western Region Carnival as part of the Cowra District Athletics team in Dubbo, Kennedy finished first in the high jump and second in the long jump.
He cleared 1.42m in the high jump, breaking the prior record of 1.36m.
The PSSA State Championships will be held at Olympic Park next month.
Men’s bowls
Last Sunday an O'Brien Cup match was played with Larry Nunn and Matthew Lawrence against Cyril Webb and Jono Preston.
Larry and Matthew has a lead up to the second last end 24-22, then Cyril and Jono scored three shots on the last end winning the game 25-24.
A consistency singles match was also played with Pat Kennedy against Nick Delaney.
Pat took control from early in the game winning 151-115.

The annual general for the club limited will be held this Sunday, September 17 at 4pm.
This will be followed by the annual general meeting of the men’s bowls committee.
Coming event-
Australian Hotshots, Thursday September 14, 7pm start. $30 per ticket call 63441605 to book tickets and pay for tickets at bar. Wednesday badge draw is $1000 and Friday badge draw is $1100. Members must be present to win. Winners must present current membership card to claim draw.
Ladies’ bowls
Tuesday, September 5 was the Central Western District Veteran’s Day held at Canowindra Bowling Club.
A total of 60 bowlers from our District attended – namely Cowra, Forbes, Parkes and Parkes Railway Diggers. The Canowindra President Betty Jenkins handed over the Club to CWD President Heather Hoad and 14 teams of bowlers played on the Ron Worboys Green and the weather did not lessen the enthusiasm for fun and friendship. The spider prizes were won by Ellen Petty (Canowindra) Ann Nixon (Forbes) Sandra McDonald (Canowindra) and Anne Castelli (Cowra).
The lucky door prizes were won by Eileen Bradley (Parkes) Moyna Rue (Canowindra) Liz Thornberry (Canowindra) and Audrey Jones (Parkes).
The three raffle prizes were won by Jeanette Davies (Cowra) Daph Bryant (Canowindra) and Sandra McDonald (Canowindra).
Winners on the day was the team of Janice Crump – Liz Thornberry (Canowindra) Eileen Bradley (Parkes) (Mary Everson (Forbes). Runners up was the team of Gwen Haydon (Canowindra) Merilyn Rodgers (Parkes) June Burgess (PRD) and Sandra McDonald (Canowindra).
A great day was had by all the bowlers and the recognition given to our vets by the NSW Women’s Bowling Association was appreciated when Veteran’s badges were handed out.

Junior league
Canowindra junior rugby league will be having their presentation on Saturday, September 16 at 10am at the Canowindra Oval. There will be a presentation followed by lunch and our annual parents v kids game so bring your running shoes. The annual will be on Tuesday, October 10 at 6pm at the Services Club. Anyone interested please feel welcome to attend and become part of our committee or even executive team. All positions will be vacant. This is an exciting opportunity for new and existing faces to step forward.
Touch football
Canowindra Touch Football Association will hold a meeting on Monday, September 18 at the Canowindra Services Club at 6.30pm for team nominations and to discuss any changes for the 2017-18 season which starts October 16.
Greyhounds
Moorbell Betty and Monster Black returned to the winner’s circle on Monday evening in Bathurst. Monster Black scooted to victory in the day’s Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Heat Five (307m) while Moorbell Betty won the Bathurst RSL Club Stakes (450m).
Golf
Last Sunday Matt and Kirsten Devlin sponsored a two person ambrose for the day.
A great mix of teams with seniors teaming up with juniors and husbands and wives resulted in 30 players. Winners were Geoff and Mex Haley from Forbes. Runners up were Dave Carmen and Deegan Hogan. Nearest to the pins were Rhonda Ward, Troy McClintock, Max Haley.
