Played at Woodward Oval, Canowindra set Cats 152 for victory and restricted the previously undefeated Parkes side to 122, with Traves and Babar combining for six wickets to clinch the win.
Despite not picking up any wickets in his opening spell with the new ball, Traves was reintroduced to the attack by skipper Ben Schaefer in the 25th over and went about wreaking havoc to the Cats middle order, and Babar took advantage at the other end.
Winning the toss, Canowindra batted first and completed its 40 overs for the first time this season, losing six wickets on its way to posting 151.
A strong platform was laid by openers Josh Carmody (22) and Peter Guthrie (42) who combined for a 53-run partnership before Carmody was dismissed by a change of pace when Anthony Heraghty was introduced.
Canowindra went to the break at 1-60.
Cats removed Ben Schaefer (2) and Guthrie soon after the break, however some steady partnerships and Traves’ innings of 35 not out helped the maroons to 6-151 from its 40 overs.
Cats’ multiple wicket takers were Anthony Riach (2-22) and Matt Spedding (2-25).
In reply, Cats lost Zac Bayliss (7) early, however Anthony Riach (18) and Dan Wilson (41) went about setting up the run chase.
Riach departed before drinks and the score was 2-61.
Canowindra continued to build pressure as Cats looked to up the run rate following drinks.
Traves was reintroduced to the attack and applied further pressure eventually resulting in Wilson being run out and Matt Spedding bowled the next ball.
Babar was thrown the ball and removed Heraghty (4) to give Canowindra’s its third wicket in as many overs, before finishing off the tail and restricting Cats to 122.
The result marks Canowindra’s first victory of the season, and Cats’ first loss.
In the round’s other match, Bowling Club defeated Parkes Colts at Holman Oval.
Three wickets each to Mick Curtale and Aaron Thorn kept runs to a minimum as Colts were bowled out for 115, after winning the toss.
Myles Smith scored a game high innings of 47 at the top of the order for Colts.
Tim Berry (37) and Tom Thuaux (27) led the victorious run chase, with five wickets falling in 28 overs.
There’s a general bye this weekend.
