The school marked the occasion with a small ceremony, a special cake in the shape of the tree and held a guessing competition to see who could figure out the circumference of the tree.
The tree’s circumference came in at a massive 6.82m.
The tree was last measured in June 2011, with a circumference of 6.37m.
The tree was planted at the school in 1957 by Mr Arthur Beasley, who was the principal at the time however it is said that he received the tree, where it was growing in Goolgowi, from a Mrs Margaret Roberts.
Canowindra Public School Principal Sharon Hawker said the tree had become a “school icon and source of admiration to all who see it”.
