Chad and Melissa Moyles had to have the three-bedroom cottage the moment they saw it.
"We like the way it looks from the street too, and we thought we'd get it for a reasonable price, which we did," Mr Moyles said.
"It's nice and neat and tidy what they've done inside," Mrs Moyles said. "And there's a big backyard for the little man to play in."
When auctioneer Paul Curtain looked for an opening offer at the auction, the Moyles opened bidding at $750,000.
They had tough competition to crack, but nothing the young family wasn't prepared for. Having been to two open homes and seen the popularity of the property, the couple breathed a sigh of relief when they realised there were just two other registered bidders.
"I was really surprised there were only three active bidders," Mr Moyles said. "Yeah, good bidding love!" Mrs Moyles added.
The house sold for $850,000, with the under-bidders - the last family to view the house - coming in just $5000 behind.
"We're very excited," Mr Moyles said. "A bit relieved now." Mrs Moyle added.
Place Bulimba's Shane Hicks said the house had interest from lots of Sydney buyers and one of the registered bidders was from the NSW capital. Sydney owner-occupier interest was replacing investor interest, he said.
"If I was selling this 12 months ago I'd have had investors all over it - it would have been 50 per cent of inquiry," Mr Hicks said. "We've sold a lot to Sydney people over the past few months and they're not all investors."
Mr Hicks said the home was perfect for renovating.
"It feels really big. They see it as being a long-term house for them. You can raise it and extend underneath - you won't over-capitalise if you do that," he said.
Mr Moyles agreed. "We could move in and live here comfortably over the next 10 years and save up and renovate," he said.
Later on Saturday, a 1990s home on Foxmont Drive in Carina sold to a young family for $826,000 at auction.
More than two dozens bids brought the home to the figure after a slow start.
Mr Curtain held the Foxmont Drive auction too, and kicked it off at $700,000 when no bidder would step in.
"For two of our bidders it was the first time we got them bidding at an auction so maybe they were a bit shy," he said. "What sometimes happens is buyers get confidence from the other parties."
Bidding gained momentum after the home was place on the market at $810,000.
After selling the property marketed by Glenn Bool, Mr Curtain said the two sales showed the mid-range Brisbane market was performing strongly.
"We got three to four bidders on each property, which is a good sign of how that middle, up to $1 million market, is going."
