Following Miss Scott’s tragic murder in April the school banded together to support each other and the wider community.
Since then Leeton High has been inundated with donations from residents, community groups and schools across the state and country.
A committee was formed to decide where and how the money should be spent, with one idea put forward that couldn’t be knocked back.
“Someone suggested an outdoor ampitheatre, which straight away we knew was right for what we wanted to do,” LHS head English and drama teacher Melissa Anthony said.
“We wanted it to be something that would be here forever and would ‘live’ on.
“Having something like a tree planted or a garden bed just didn’t seem enough. We wanted to honour Steph’s bright and bubbly personality, so this is perfect.”
Miss Scott was an English and drama teacher at Leeton High. The ampitheatre will fill a previously unused area at the school and will include a stage, three-tier seating and a tribute to Miss Scott.
The Department of Education and Communities has approved the idea and will take on the completion of the project.
It is hoped to be done by the end of the year. The design of the ampitheatre was completed by LHS student Mackenzie Saddler and his father Glenn.
An area has been marked out showing what the project will entail.
“We thought it could be used for outdoor lessons, performances or just somewhere for the students to go to remember Steph,” Mrs Anthony said.
“One day it might even be something we open up to the community, so you might have preschool come here and put on a play, that sort of thing. I think she (Steph) would have loved it. Now we have the idea there’s nothing else we would rather do.”
Ms Scott was last seen on April 5 preparing lesson plans before her honeymoon. Her burnt body was found in the Cocoparra National Park on April 10, the day before she was due to marry Aaron Leeson-Woolley.
Vincent Stanford was charged with Miss Scott’s rape and murder and his twin brother, Marcus Stanford, with being an accessory after the fact in connection with her murder.
