Canowindra celebrates this each year with its annual Airing of the Quilts, a showcase of the marvellous creative work of patch-workers and stitchers throughout NSW.
Canowindra’s Airing of the Quilts came from a desire to create a walking trail through the town with quilts adorning the verandahs and shop windows to give visitors a reason to stop and have a look around.
Every year around 140 quilts are entered into the week long shop window displays before being hung up from the second story verandahs.
While no quilts are specifically made for the Airing they do come from far and wide and have a very high standard, with one quilt last year taking out the Canberra Craft and Quilt Fair’s National Quilt Award.
Started in 2012 this year will mark the sixth year of the Canowindra Airing of the Quilts and while it’s still too early for this years quilts to be coming in the town is quietly working towards September 30, when this years display comes together.
