Grant tapped in the equaliser during an enthralling second-half against Melbourne Victory at Allianz Stadium, the goal ultimately sending the match into extra-time and penalties with the game locked at 1-1 after regular time and extra-time.
Victory came agonisingly close in the 107th minute when a right-foot volley from James Troisi hit the post, but with it all-square after 120 minutes the game was forced to be decided by penalties.
FC goalkeeper Danny Vukovic starred saving the crucial fourth Victory penalty before Milos Nikovic converted to give Sydney FC a 4-2 win from the spot.
Grant wasn’t required in the penalties but he played an amazing 120 minutes.
Earlier, the Sky Blues conceded the opening goal in the 20th minute when Victory’s chief goal-scorer Besart Breisha found the back of the net.
Berisha capitilised on an advantage played by referee Jarred Gillett, evading multiple defenders before slotting home the strike with his left-foot.
Sydney piled on the pressure in the second half and dominated the early chances.
Grant netted the equaliser at the 69th minute after a shot from substitute David Carney was blocked and left bobbling around the face of goal.
Grant made no mistake in knocking it home, just his third goal of the 2016-2017 season.
The result caps off a remarkable season for Grant who spent time in the Socceroos’ camp during the most recent World Cup qualifiers.
