The meeting was held to give the local candidates the opportunity to put their cases to the voting public and address concerns from local community members.
Anthony Durkin, a current Cabonne Shire Councillor told the meeting he was standing again “to offer experienced representation”.
“I’m not going to say I’ll do x,y,z. I’m here to say I’ll be a strong voice for representation.
“I’ll take up any issues, concerns to the Chamber and make sure you are represented,” Durkin said.
Candidate Cheryl Newsom told the meeting the “time is right for me to throw my hat into the ring for council”.
She told those present she could bring a depth of experience with business to council.
“I have championed many causes,” she said adding she is “committed to work with other councillors to ensure Cabonne continues to grow.”
Current deputy mayor Kevin Walker said if re-elected his priorities “would be the finalisation of the Cumnock Yeoval pipeline, the retiremnet village for our seniors, the Age of Fishes, Eugowra Creek levy, RFS headquarters at Moorbel, cemetery improvements, pedestrian improvements, programs upgrade, and maintenance and upgrade of the road network and furthering of Cranky Rock dam on the Belubula River.
”My experience in local government has given me a deep understanding of government processes.
“I enjoy representing and advocating for the community,” Walker told those present.
Canowindra’s final candidate, Jenny Weaver, who served as a councillor from 1995 to 2008 said she supported council working to attract industry to the area.
“Council has the resources to ensure advancement encompasses the wider community,” she said.
“I will work to ensure all health services are maintained at current levels and further expanded.
I understand roads remain a priority and will promote the Ages of Fishes and Balloon challenge,” Weaver told the meeting which was then thrown up to questions which had been submitted to the candidates prior to the start of the meeting.
The responses from the Canowindra based candidates to some of the issues raised during the meeting are covered inside or will be covered prior to the September 9 election date.
