Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre in Canowindra is joining forces with fellow Salvation Army Aged Care Plus Centres for their annual Walkathon initiative to raise $80,000 for The Freedom Partnership, The Salvation Army’s national initiative to end modern day slavery in Australia.

The Canowindra community are encouraged to support Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre and attend their community market stall to be held at 41 Gaskill Street, Canowindra on Friday, September 1 from 10.00am – 2.00pm.
The stall will be a great event for the whole family with fresh jams, relish, baked goods and crafts on sale with all funds raised to be donated to The Freedom Partnership.
Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre Captain Mark Williamson, encourages the local community to get involved and visit the market stalls.
“Here at Moyne Aged Care Plus Centre we’re hosting community market stalls in support of The Freedom Partnership and I strongly encourage the community, even those without a connection to our Centre, to come along and use your freedom to inspire change in support for victims of slavery,” Mark said.
According to the Global Slavery Index (2016), 45.8 million men, women and children around the world are currently enslaved, including approximately 4,300 people in Australia.
Aged Care Plus Chief Executive Officer, Sharon Callister said: “In addition to our aged care mandate here at Aged Care Plus, we are committed to supporting disadvantaged communities and contributing to a better, supportive environment. We are proud to again be partnering with The Freedom Partnership to make a positive difference to those suffering and take one step closer to end modern slavery in Australia”.
Aged Care Plus’ preceding fundraising efforts for The Freedom Partnership have had a significant impact on those subject to modern slavery.
Specifically, funds raised in the 2016 Walkathon efforts enabled the provision of emergency food assistance to 30 exploited foreign farm works, a family reunification grant was provided to a man who was trafficked for domestic servitude to bring his children to Australia after four years of separation and emergency material assistance for a woman with four children after she was eradicated from slavery.
