“This is an opportunity to discuss and voice concerns and/or support for the future of the building,” Canowindra Creative Centre member Deb Rutter said.
Details of the meeting and open day will be released nearer to the time.
Ms Rutter has received support for the meeting and retention of Orana House from Canowindra’s Cabonne Shire Council candidates.
”I think before any decision is made (to sell the building) the council needs to bring this back to a public meeting,” Jenny Weaver said.
“As the building is used for community gatherings on a regular basis council is not allowing community input.
“(Sale of the site) is something that has been decided on without the community,” she added.
Former deputy mayor Kevin Walker said the decision of the former council is now null and void and will come back to the new council to make a decision.
Anthony Durkin said he was happy to enter into a community meeting to discuss what the community as a whole wants for Orana House.
“At this stage I’m happy if re-elected to come back to the community and key stakeholders to find out how to go forward,” he said.
Candidate Cheryl Newsom said she has spoken at length with some of the people involved in Orana House.
“When the motion was passed at council there hadn’t been community discussion,” Ms Newsom said in regard to the future of Orana House.
“It is a great idea for it to go back to a new council and enable council to hold a public meeting on it’s future,” Ms Newsom said when the future of Orana House was raised as a public meeting with council candidates in Canowindra last month.
When also asked at the meeting if they would welcome Joblink Plus to bring training opportunities to Canowindra and district all the candidates responded they would.
Mr Walker said he was aware Joblink has been looking at sites other than Orana House, in Canowindra.
