Two showgirl entrants and three juniors featured at the ball at the Canowindra Services Club, ahead of this Saturday afternoon’s announcement of the 2017 Showgirl.
Rachel Wynn and Jen Holmes have entered a bid to claim the 2017 Showgirl title while Dakota Howell, Georgia Cole and Tess Frecklington are chasing the junior showgirl crown.
The winners will be announced in front of the grand stand at the Canowindra Showground about 2.15pm on Saturday afternoon.
President Andrew Holmes identified the success of 2016 winner Meg Austin in his president’s report, which also singles out the efforts of countless volunteers.
“I am also proud to have been witness to the success of our very own Canowindra Showgirl from 2016, Meg Austin,” he said.
“After winning our Showgirl event, Meg travelled to the Zone 6 Finals and was successful in being selected for the State Finals at the Sydney Royal Easter Show earlier this year.
“Meg participated in many official showgirl events, including visiting the Children’s Westmead Hospital, Government House and events at the Royal Show.
“Meg was a fantastic ambassador for not only Canowindra, but rural NSW. We wish Meg all the success in her future.”
One of the most significant changes this year is the shuffling forward of the official opening to the Friday night.
Bushranger enthusiast Craig Lawler of Blind Freddy’s Bushranger tours will open the 2017 Canowindra Show about 7pm before the fireworks at 8pm.
The announcing of the 2017 Showgirl will headline Saturday’s activities along with the grand parade which will follow about 2.30pm.
President Andrew Holmes says there’s plenty on offer at this year’s show to keep everyone entertained.
“As usual, there will be something for everyone at the Show, with entertainment for toddlers right through to adults, old and young. Make sure you see all we have to offer – from the wonderful array of craftwork, photography, cookery, the agricultural and garden produce, horse events, livestock, machinery, business displays and rides – just to name a few,”he said.
“Don’t miss the Fireworks on Friday night, our feature performances throughout the entire weekend and the Showgirls on Saturday,” President Andrew Holmes said.
