Caddie captured the crowd speaking about the sounds and smells of Australia which instantly “bring us home”, “our passion to win” and the way we “survive and strive as a nation”.
“The warble of magpie’s song in the morning that can waken us to a smile and deep sense of belonging, the breaking of a long hot summer afternoon silence by that instantly recognisable piercing laughter of a kookaburra – these are our sounds, Australia sounds,” Caddie said.
“The smell of the bush, eucalypt and lemon myrtle, the smell of a shearing shed at the end of a back breaking day, the cool rich smell of the river.”
Mr Gee said she “absolutely captured what it means to be a country Australian”.
