The summer was particularly hard on the garden and the volunteer base available just wasn't enough for this past season and the next.
Margie Crowther, who looks after the garden said most of the work for the dole people who had been assisting at the garden in recent times had successfully gained jobs and were no longer available and other volunteers were away for most of the summer.
“I always said I would "mothball" the garden if the summer was too hard,” Ms Crowther said, announcing the decision.
“What we are looking at though is mothballing it until:
“ - More volunteers sign up to volunteer for an hour or two a week gardening;
“ - More volunteers sign up to help watering for about an hour a week;
“ - A person helps coordinate regular activites on the weekend;
“ - We gain another grant to help pay the costs of running a garden.”
Ms Crowther said if you or someone you know values Canowindra having a community garden and can see that you can contribute to any parts of this project then please feel welcome to contact her on 0427 42 5844 and she will put together a list of people.
“When all the ducks line up I will be back in touch for the next big launch of the garden back into productivity and beyond,” Ms Crowther said.
“Many many thanks to all of you for being a part of the garden in your own way.
“Every way that people have input - even if they champion the garden in a conversation with another person - it is all valuable and the garden thanks you.
“Cheers and look forward to hearing from you soon,” Ms Crowther said to any possible volunteers willing to help with the garden.
