A total of 67,200 jobs were created in regional areas in the last year, a 6.6 per cent increase compared to the previous 12 months, with women accounting for 42,000 of those.
Mr Barilaro said it was exceptional result and said women were the driving force behind the outstanding jobs growth.
“As much as NSW is leading the Australian economy, it is regional NSW, and particularly women in regional areas, that are making the biggest contribution to NSW’s jobs growth,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The growth of female employment in regional NSW alone, has exceeded all jobs created in the entire states of WA and Tasmania combined in the last year.
“This is exciting news for regional NSW and I am proud to point out the immense contribution women make to our economy and our communities today on the International Women’s Day.”
Mr Barilaro said “unprecedented investment” by the government was driving the economy to new heights and creating more opportunities for women in the workplace.
The Deputy Premier said the unemployment rate across regional NSW was at 5.5 per cent as a result of the strong growth.
"We have smashed the 30,000 jobs target we set for regional NSW at the last election,” he said.
“In just one year we have delivered almost as many jobs for regional NSW as were created in all of Labor’s last 8 years in office.
“Thanks to the NSW Liberals and National’s economic management, regional NSW has reversed Labor’s years of economic stagnation and contribute to the exceptional growth of the NSW economy.”
Mr Barilaro said the government would continue to invest in hospitals and health care, schools, roads and transport infrastructure.
