The plan was approved, following an exhibition period, at council’s February meeting.
As part of the plan Cabonne hopes to maintain the park “as an integral component in the visual and social fabric” of Canowindra.
The overall aim of the plan is to maintain the park as a war memorial park and to provide open space for passive recreation in accordance with a landscape plan prepared by Sally Borne Landscapes in 2014.
Key actions from the plan include:
- A horticulturalist inspecting the park’s trees annually and recommending strategies to mantain their health.
- Completing a feature pergola by planting deciduous vines to cover the structure.
- Removing or replacing the Rotary Club visitor information board and structure. Amending the landscaping to include a tourist map information board that can be viewed from within the park rather than from Blatchford Street.
- Repairing brick capping along the garden edges.
- Repainting and maintaining the park picnic tables.
- Maintaining annually the landscaped garden beds within the park and along the street boundary and providing an annual budget for the work to be carried out.
- Liaising with Canowindra RSL sub branch to identify a strategic program for any proposed future commemoration of war service.
- Replace and repair lighting.
- Reduce hazards created by uneven surfaces following removal of shrubs and trees..
