The implementation of a Closed Circuit Television scheme is a complex and expensive project.
- Cabonne GM Stephen Harding
In a report to this month’s Cabonne Council meeting, Cabonne General manager Stephen Harding recommended the council determine whether to form a working-party of appropriate stakeholders be formed to undertake a detailed assessment and address the necessary criteria to determine the future of the project.
In a report to the meeting Mr Harding said “CCTV in public places needs to balance the need for public safety against the right of privacy for members of the public”.
“Establishing and operating a CCTV system can be complex, time consuming and costly, therefore it is necessary that appropriate policies and procedures are in place to ensure that the CCTV system operates efficiently and effectively once it is installed,” Mr Harding said.
According to Mr Harding’s report the cost of a system is between $49,000 and $64,000 per unit.
He said ownership of the system brought with it responsibilities to ensure the costs of it were met.
