The topic of her address will be “Congratulations, your son has autism”.
Judy and her husband, the Hon Tim Fischer AC, former Leader of the Federal National Party and Deputy Prime Minister, are the parents of an adult autistic son and Judy is the Chair of the Co-Operative Research Centre for Living with Autism (Autism CRC), which has over fifty partner organisations.
Judy regularly speaks and writes on issues relating to families caring for family members with special needs and has exceptional knowledge from her first hand experiences.
Her many commitments have included being Director of of Autism Council Australia, founder of Autism Aspergers Advocacy Australia and an Ambassador to the Asia Pacific Autism Conference.
As a result of her commitment to Autism she has been appointed to Federal and State Government Committees including Chair of the National Family Carers Voice, Panel member of the Review of the Disability Carer Allowance, the Ministerial Advisory Group on the reforms to Disability Trusts, the Victorian Government Autism State Plan Working Party and the DEEWR Advisory Committee for the Positive Partnerships for Refugees.
Judy has served in her local region in a varied range of community organisations including the President of the Womens Refugee Education Network, Convenor of the local Rural Australians for Refugees, Australian Women in Agriculture, and Mudgegonga Landcare group.
In 2013 Judy was awarded the Asia Pacific Autism Award and is Life Member of the Autism Spectrum Australia.
Judy became the Officer of the Order of Australia in January 2016 and was appointed pro Chancellor of Charles Sturt University for the Southern Region later that year.
Apart from these commitments, Judy is the owner/manager of a fifth generation family farm at Mudgegonga in north east Victoria where she and Tim live with their sons, Harrison and Dominic.
