Canowindra’s performance in their round one Woodbridge Cup match on Friday night gave supporters plenty of reason to believe it’s going to be a big year for the Tigers.

The Tigers thumped Cargo Blue Heelers 48-12 at Tom Clyburn Oval, a hat-trick to winger Marika Kirkoroivai in the opening half setting up the 36 point victory.
Kain Earsman made a successful return to the Tigers after a stint at big name Group 10 club Orange CYMS, scoring a first half try on his way to being recognised as the best player on ground.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the third minute with Marika crossing on the wing and Matt Mclean added the extras from the sideline.
Earsman and Brydon Hughes were the next to go over and Mclean kicked both to extend the margin to three converted tries.
Two further Tigers four pointers and one to Cargo before the break saw the scores read 30-6 in favour of the hosts.
A fourth try to Marika and one each to Wally Gaeta and Blake Willson, while the Blue Heelers only managed one, during the second half sealed Canowindra’s mammoth round one 48-12 win.
While the Tigers laid on plenty of points, the pressure they applied in defence was equally impressive.
Dave Hogan picked up the players player award, three points went to Kain Earsman, two points went to Brydon Hughes and one point to five-eight Tory Madden.
Elsewhere in Woodbridge Cup round one action, in the big western derby defending premiers Trundle thrashed Condobolin Rams 76-0, showing they’ve started their Cup defence with a big warning to all the other sides in 2018.
Eugowra Golden Eagles as expected kicked off their season with a 46-8 win over Burrangong Bears and Manildra Rhinos scored a big win over Peak Hill Roosters 52-16.
The Tigers are away to Peak Hill this Saturday.
In the lower grades, on Friday night Cargo defeated Canowindra 58-10 in league tag.
Condobolin won 32-6 over Trundle on Sunday, Eugowra beat Burrangon 78 – 6 and Manildra won 64-0 over Peak Hill.
One youth league game was played resulting in a 62-8 win for Manildra over Peak Hill.
