A record number of 38 hot air balloon pilots will converge on Canowindra for this year’s Canowindra International Balloon Challenge, officially making it the largest ballooning event in Australia.

Oragniser Jan Kerr was thrilled to announce the record number of entrants ahead of the beginning of the nine-day competition this Saturday morning.

Ms Kerr said 200 campers have booked out the Showground and another 50 campers will be staying at the Sports Ovals, and she expects about 10,000 for next Saturday’s Balloon Glow and Markets. Ms Kerr’s expecting fine weather for the opening few days of the competition.

“I think we’ll definitely be right for this weekend,” Ms Kerr said.

“Everything’s coming together now at the right time.”

Balloon flights will occur daily at 6am and 3.30pm from Saturday, April 21 until Sunday, April 29.
