The short film festival will be hosted in Canowindra at the Age of Fishes Museum on October 13, 2018 and feature short-form documentaries and mockumentaries from all over the world.
The CEF of Canowindra chairperson Barry Burn said he is excited for the festival’s launch.
“This project has been in the works for a little while now and we can’t wait to see people of all ages and from all locations enter this festival.
“The idea behind Cano Mocs and Docs 2804 is to showcase the marvels of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects,” Barry says.
“The inaugural theme has been named as ‘fossil’ and must be included creatively in your film.
“It’s not just about rocks and bones, and entrants are encouraged to think outside the square - sometimes our older generations can be referred to as fossils too,” Barry joked.
“We’re undertaking this big and wonderful festival to help our local youth gain access to education, training and jobs, through grants, scholarships, support services and resources.
“We wanted to host this big fundraiser because country students deserve big chances,” Barry says.
“We’re excited to host this film festival in Canowindra to get this message in the spotlight for our local students.”
The fun and creative fundraiser asks people of any age to get behind the camera and enter a film of 2 minutes (0- 11 ages), 4 minutes (12-17 ages) or 8 minutes (18+) for their chance to win up to $1000.
Everyone from families to young tech heads, schools to community groups, science lovers to film buffs are encouraged to take a shot to have their talents showcased.
In its 25-year history more than 4000 students have received a helping hand from the Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEF) and its volunteers in local communities who generously support their young people.
“These young people are now all over Australia and the world, flourishing in careers across all professions, industry and endeavor. We are so proud of our alumni and are eager to help many, many more country kids achieve the education and training they deserve and desire,” Wendy Cohen, CEF CEO, says.
